First Trimester Sonogram

by Shayna on April 28th, 2009

Yesterday we went in for our “First Trimester Screening and Ultrasound Exam” and of course it was fun because we got to see Baby Deuce, and it actually looks like a baby now, not just a blob. This is the screening where they test for your chances of having a baby with Down syndrome, Trisomy-18 or Trisomy-13. The sonogram pic labeling the nasal bone is relevant because babies that have Down syndrome won’t have a nasal bone in this ultrasound. We won’t get the official results back for a week but they said that everything looks good and they are pretty sure that we are having a healthy baby girl : ) Yup, that’s right, the doctor was confident enough to tell us that she is 98% sure that we are going to have a girl. In the sonogram pics that label “girl gear”, I think all it’s really showing is the lack of boy parts. Our sonogram pics and 3D pics aren’t as good this time as they were with Carter, Baby Deuce was more camera shy than he was, but I’ll post them all anyway. Prior to this screening my OBGYN told me that if I was told the gender, not to buy any pink or blue until my 20 week ultrasound confirms the sex. She had been told at her 1st trimester screening that she was having a boy and it ended up being a girl. But I’m gonna refer to Baby Deuce as “she” until told otherwise. ~sg
